Founded in 1962 as a not-for-profit organization in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, the Goethe-Institut draws on Germany’s rich and vibrant culture to work as a presenter, service provider, and partner for Canadians with an interest in German language and culture.

Dialogue, exchange, and partnership are our principles. We connect Canadian organizations, artists, teachers and other experts across the country with their German counterparts to enhance understanding and collaboration.

The Goethe-Institut network provides internationally renowned German language classes, examinations, and certification to more than 200,000 people worldwide every year.

Through our network of more than 140 institutes in 91 countries as well as 16 institutes in Germany, we provide global access to contemporary German culture and highly effective language learning and teaching.
